Aloha, I'm Joan Haney, also known as "The Prepper Mom." I bring a lifetime of emergency preparedness, self-reliance, and prepping experience to my teaching. I have a rich background in various survival and self-sufficiency skills, from commercial fishing, hunting, owning three farms, gardening in five states, raising livestock, preserving food, to training horses and teaching horse riding lessons and running summer camps, for over three decades. I am also blessed to be a Nationally Certified Hawaiian Lomilomi Massage and Healing Arts Instructor.
As a proud wife of a retired military man and mother of two combat veterans, my mission is to empower families, particularly busy millennial entrepreneurial moms, to become self-sufficient and adopt a healthier prepper lifestyle. My expertise and dedication make me a trusted figure in the prepper community.
Alongside my husband Scott, I have spent the past 19 years teaching over 1,000 individuals about emergency preparedness and prepping skills…
Helping families and especially Busy Moms quickly forge a path of preparedness through any storm.
It all began… 39 years ago while swimming in a hot spring near Mountain Home, Idaho. Scott & Joan got married just 4 months later and have been living a prepper lifestyle ever since. Scott is a retired Combat Infantryman and Police Detective, with a love for hunting, hiking, emergency communications, personal and family security, and firearms training.
Joan, on the other hand, grew up in the country as a fisherman's daughter and is a retired horse trainer and massage therapist. She loves horses, animals, working out, the outdoors, and backpacking with Scott. Together, they have owned three farms and one home in the city, where they have raised rabbits and gardens. On the farms, they have also raised horses, sheep, milk and fiber goats, chickens, geese, turkeys, Kunekune pigs, cats, dogs, and even a few stray skunks. They have four children and four grandchildren, whom they love to spend time with.
Their goal is to help families, especially busy Moms become fully prepared for the crazy events happening in our world today. Their emphasis is on food storage, water storage, emergency supplies, plus home and personal security. Their mission is to help you thrive in the face of uncertainty. God bless you and your family.
Keep On Prepping - Scott and Joan Haney
In 1978, Joan attended Meredith Manor International Equestrian Center, beginning her career in horse training and prompting her move to Idaho from North Carolina. There, she met her "survival" husband, embarking on a prepping journey across five states and Germany.
Joan raised four children, balancing child-rearing with gardening, canning, raising livestock, spinning designer yarns, owning three farms, and urban home life, while also homeschooling and continuing her equestrian pursuits as opportunities arose.
Joan co-founded Farwest Farms Bareback Riders, a cherished venture where she taught children to ride bareback and bridleless, performing in the Pacific Northwest. Joan also held children’s overnight summer camps. Concurrently, Joan and Scott began teaching Emergency Preparedness and Prepping at their church and later in their community.
In 2009, facing an economic downturn and Joan experiencing a training accident, they sold Farwest Farms. Joan, drawn to massage, became a nationally certified Hawaiian Lomilomi Massage Healing Arts & Massage Instructor, sharing "Aloha" with many through teaching, and specialized in private couple's workshops, enhancing relationships.
With global challenges rising, including food shortages and the American health crises, Joan felt a calling to return to her farming roots, focusing on educating busy moms about raising and securing healthy food, self-reliance, personal security, preparedness and to educate others on these vital skills to save lives.
Joan retired from massage in September 2021 to fully commit to her calling to teach Prepping and Emergency Preparedness worldwide.
